Indications:
• In the
treatment and temporary relief of nasal and sinus congestion
• Sneezing
and runny nose caused by a common cold
• Seasonal
and permanent allergic rhinitis
Mechanism of action:
Chlorpheniramine
maleate acts by competing with histamine to bind to H1 receptors on
histamine-affected cells. This prevents the intermediate reactions of histamine
but does not eliminate the effects. Chlorinephenyramine also inhibits the
muscarinic effects of acetylcholine and can cause dry mouth and nasal mucosa.
Phenylephrine
is a sympathomimetic amine with a direct effect on adrenergic receptors that is
used to relieve symptomatic nasal congestion and in combination with other
drugs as a symptomatic treatment for colds.
Administration:
In adults:
1-2 capsules every 4 to 6 hours and a maximum of 8 capsules per day.
In children
over 12 years: one capsule every 4 to 6 hours and a maximum of 4 capsules per
day
Dosage in
the elderly is adjusted by the treating physician.
If you have
a history of allergies to this drug, do not use it.
Warning:
• If you
miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for the
next dose, take the prescribed dose and avoid doubling the dose.
• In case of
prostatic hypertrophy, in case of using alcohol-containing products or drugs
that inhibit the central nervous system, in other diseases, especially in
cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, liver damage, hypertension, hyperthyroidism,
hypertension, glaucoma Consult your doctor or pharmacist for angle-closure,
prostate hypertrophy, impaired kidney function, or urinary retention.
•In case of
dry mouth, use chewing gum or suckers. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if dry
mouth lasts for more than 2 weeks.
•Due to
interference with the results of skin tests, inform your doctor before taking
these tests. It is recommended to stop taking antihistamines 72 hours before
these tests.
• This drug
is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.
Drug interactions:
Consult your
doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other medicines, especially
anticholinergics, antihypertensives or antidepressants, digital glycosides,
monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
