Basic instructions for proper use of drugs
Vitamin D is one of the fat-soluble vitamins that are essential for the maintenance of bone health throughout life. Calcium is the main element of bone and only can be absorbed in the presence of vitamin D. Vitamin D and calcium involve in many functions of body such as maintaining the health of the immune and nervous systems.
It is recommended that consult with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine in the following cases:
•    History of taking calcium
•    If you are taking medicines containing calcium, phosphorus or vitamin D along with this medication.
•    Clinical response on vitamin D depends to calcium diet.
Use in lactation and pregnancy
•    It have not been established any side effect with regular intake of this drug in humans, although drug benefits must be weighed against its losses.
Drug Indications:
Adequate intake of vitamin "D" can prevent the occurrence of a series of serious illnesses, including the following:
•    Osteoporosis: prevents of softening and fast frangibility of bones. (Vitamin "D"  protect the body against diseases such as rickets, osteomalacia (osteomalacia), osteoporosis and osteopenia maintains.) People who live in parts of northern climates and those who do not receive direct sunlight, need vitamin supplements "D" to strengthen bones. If the level of vitamin "D" be low  in body, calcium supplements will not help in the treatment of osteoporosis.
•    Cancer: Vitamin "D" has interference in cell growth and it was established that, it reduces the growth of cancer cells in blood, skin, colon and breast. Also Research show that people with adequate levels of vitamin "D" have lower risk of prostate and colorectal cancer.
•    Diabetes: Vitamin "D" helps to regulate blood sugar control to prevent diabetes.
•    Multiple sclerosis: Vitamin "D" preserves the body against the disease.
Vitamin "D" is also useful in the following cases:
•    Contribute to the active parathyroid
•    Reduce cartilage damage in people with arthritis and reduce the severity of rheumatoid arthritis
•    The success of psoriasis treatment.
•    In those people that under treatment with anticonvulsants or glucocorticoids.
The best source for the preparation of vitamin D:
•    Fish oil
•    salmon  fish
•    milk
•     mushrooms
•     Beans
•     Yolk
Sunlight is a natural source for vitamin "D" in the body. If the skin is bright, daily sun exposure for 20 to 30 minutes is enough for supply body’s vitamin "D". If you have dark skin sun light exposure for 3 hours can be useful.   Clouds, Haze, clothing, optical filters and glass of windows can reduce the amount of incoming sunlight for the manufacture of vitamin D.
Drug and dosage:
For the prevention of disease and deficiency of vitamin D, in adults and children who are are not regularly exposed to sunlight, the recommended dosage per day, is as follows:
•    Infants and children:  from birth to age 3 years,  300 to 400 IU per day
•    Ages 4 to 6 years:  400 IU per day.
•    Age of 7 to 10 years: 400 IU per day.
•    Adults: 200 to 400 IU
•    pregnant and lacting women : 400 IU daily.
Precautions:
•    Meal the drug according to your doctor’s prescribes, because there is the risk of toxicity with long-term use or high doses of vitamin D there.
•    Because of different sensitivity to the effects of the drug, the dose should be adjusted based on clinical response.
Vitamin D should be used under medical supervision and caution In the following cases:
•    Arteriosclerosis, heart failure, high blood calcium and phosphate, extreme sensitivity to vitamin D and kidney failure.
•    Taking large amounts of vitamin "D" (1000 IU) can make you very ill. Symptoms include excessive thirst, metal taste, bone pain, fatigue, eye pain, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, need to urinate, and muscle problems. (Excessive exposure to sunlight, does not give you additional vitamin "D").
•    If you take antacids containing magnesium, digitalis glycosides, verapamil and thiazide diuretics.
Contraindications:
•    The excess calcium and vitamin D in body, renal osteodystrophy along with ecxess blood phosphate.

Side Effects:
Each drug, Along with the favorable therapy effects, may cause some unwanted side effects, although, all these effects cannot be seen in a person, but In the continuation of any of the following symptoms should see a doctor:
•    Early symptoms of vitamin D toxicity associated with high blood calcium: constipation, nausea or vomiting (usually more common in children and adolescents), diarrhea, headache, loss of appetite, metal taste, thirst, dry mouth, fatigue or unusual weakness.
•    Late symptoms of vitamin D toxicity associated with high blood calcium:  Bone pain, clouding of urine, high blood pressure, light sensitivity or irritation of the eyes, itching skin, irregular heartbeat, mental or mood changes, nausea, muscle pain , nausea or vomiting, stomach severe pain, seizures, frequent urination at night specially with increasing volume of urine or increase the and unusual weight loss
 Drug Interactions:
Concurrent use the following cases, causes to reduce the absorption of vitamin "D":
• Cholestyramine
• Mineral oil
• Alcohol
• Some anti-seizure treatment

Poisoning
•    If the patients takes something more than the amount recommended by the physician, he should be transferred to hospital or medical centers.-
Maintenance
•    Keep drug away from children reach
•    Keep it below 25°C and away from light and moisture and also keep in it’s original pack.
•    Do not use expired drug.
