General instructions for proper use of drugs:
• People who are allergic to one type of penicillins can also be allergic to other penicillins.
• People who are allergic to cephalosporins may also be allergic to ampicillin.
• Carefully observe the interval between the injections that is given by your doctor and complete the course of treatment.
• In the case of having history of allergy to penicillins, notify your doctor.
• In some patients, the use of ampicillin may cause diarrhea. Avoid antidiarrheal medication In the case of severe diarrhea and consult with your doctor. In case of mild diarrhea, you can take drugs that contain kaolin or attapulgite. Do not use anti-diarrhea drugs. In the event of continued mild diarrhea consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
• There is a risk of unwanted pregnancy in the case of using contraceptive drugs containing estrogen, concomitant use with ampicillin.
Using in pregnancy and breastfeeding
• This drug from the point of pregnancy classification, belonging to (B) group, therefore, gains and losses resulting from the administration of ampicillin to be evaluated by a doctor during pregnancy and lactation.
Precautions
• Ampicillin can cause false reactions of sugar in the urine to be tested. If after several days of treatment, symptoms or severity was not significant and consult with your doctor.
Administration and Dosage
• Dose for each patient is determined by the doctor.
• Adults: The conventional dose of ampicillin in adults through intramuscular injection or intravenous injection is 250 to 500 mg every six hours. In patients with meningitis and blood infection (septicemia), dose intramuscular and intravenous injections can be 1 to 2 g every three or four hours and Or 18.75 to 25mg per kilogram of body weight every 3 hours or 25 to 33.3mg per kilogram of body weight given every 4 hours. In patients with gonorrhea, intramuscular or intravenous dose of 500 mg every 8 to 12 hours and, if necessary, treatment can be repeated.
Babies and Children
• The conventional dose of ampicillin in children up to 20 kg body weight through intramuscular injection or intravenous is 25 to 25.6mg per kilogram of body weight every 6 hours or 3.8 to 33.3 mg per kilogram of body weight every 8 h. In children over 20 kg the dose for adult should be used. In children with meningitis and septicemia, intramuscular and intravenous dosing can be up to 25 mg per kilogram of body weight 75/18 every 3 hours or 25 to 33.3 mg per kilogram of body weight every 8 hours to be increased.
Intramuscular injection: dissolve the contents of the 250 mg and 500 mg vials in 1.5 ml and content of 1g vials in 3.5mL sterile injectable water and then inject it deeply.
Intravenous injection: Dissolve the contents of 250 and 500mg vials in 5mL and also 1g vial in 10mL sterile injectable water. Infuse slowly the contents of 250 and 500mg vials at 3-5 minutes and also contents of 1g vials at 10-15 minutes.
Precaution: Rapid intravenous infusion of ampicillin may cause seizures.
Intravenous infusion: Dissolve the contents of 250 and 500mg vials in 5mL and also contents of 1g vial in 10mL sterile injectable water. The dilute obtained solution in proper volume of infusion liquid such as injectable isotonic NaCl solution, injectable sodium lactate solution, injectable 5% dextrose solution in 0.9% injectable sodium chloride solution, or injectable ringer lactate solution and the Infuse slowly according to procedure.
Side Effects:
• Each drug along with desired therapeutic effects, may cause some unwanted symptoms. Although all of this symptoms, are not seen in one person, but in the case of the following effects, consult with a doctor:
As with other penicillins, side effects are mainly related to sensitivity phenomena. These symptoms, especially in people who have a history of penicillin allergy or sensitivity in patients with asthma and hives are more common.
Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, enterocolitis, colitis and diarrhea may also occur Pseudo membrane, but most of these side effects are mainly observed after oral administration.
Poisoning
• In the event of taking over dose amount of this drug, take the patient to poisoning medical center or hospital.
Maintenance
• Keep drug below 30°C and away from light.
• Do not use expired drug
• The solution that ready for injection has yellow or pal yellow color. Do not infuse in the case of changing color.
• It is recommended to infuse immediately after preparation.
