Mechanism
of action:
Gelofen ® is a soft gelatin capsule
of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) that acts by inhibiting the
synthesis of prostaglandins and cyclooxygenase 1 and 2.
After
absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, this drug is metabolized by the liver
and excreted in urine and feces.
The
correct amount and method of consumption:
The dose of
this drug is determined by the doctor based on the patient's age and it is
mandatory to follow the doctor's instructions. The following information
describes the therapeutic dose of the drug.
Treatment of
pain and fever in adults and adolescents and treatment of dysmenorrhea: 200 to
400 mg every 4 to 6 hours.
Treatment of
rheumatoid arthritis: 1200 to 3200 mg daily, used in 3 or 4 divided doses. The
dose can be reduced if symptoms improve.
The maximum
dose in adults and adolescents is 3200 mg daily.
To reduce
gastrointestinal side effects, take the drug with food and a glass of water.
Do not take
this medicine if you have a history of allergies to ibuprofen.
Warning:
Taking this
medicine may cause confusion or drowsiness, so avoid driving and doing all
things that require full alertness.
If you have
cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disease, kidney failure, asthma, high
blood pressure and any other disease, consult your doctor or pharmacist before
taking this medicine.
Drug
interactions:
Concomitant
use of this drug with ketorolac, aspirin, apixaban and captopril. If you are
taking these medicines at the same time, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Avoid taking
this medicine with alcohol at the same time as it aggravates stomach problems.
